Time to Move on

13 Oct

It’s time to move on, time to get going
What lies ahead, I have no way of knowing
But under my feet, baby, grass is growing
It’s time to move on, it’s time to get going

Broken skyline, movin’ through the airport
She’s an honest defector
Conscientious objector
Now her own protector
Broken skyline, which way to love land
Which way to something better
Which way to forgiveness
Which way do I go

It’s time to move on, time to get going
What lies ahead, I have no way of knowing
But under my feet, baby, grass is growing
It’s time to move on, it’s time to get going

Sometime later, getting the words wrong
Wasting the meaning and losing the rhyme
Nauseous adrenalin
Like breakin’ up a dogfight
Like a deer in the headlights
Frozen in real time
I’m losing my mind

It’s time to move on, time to get going
What lies ahead, I have no way of knowing
But under my feet, baby, grass is growing
It’s time to move on, it’s time to get going

Thank you, Tom Petty.  Wise words.  Wise words, indeed.  I last saw Tom Petty, in concert, in 2008.  I remember that concert, quite fondly.  The kids were with us, though in a different section. 🙂 They are also Tom Petty fans.  Everyone loves Tom Petty. I’m still in disbelief at his passing.

The Bears may be 1-4, however, we could be 3-1.  Two of our losses could have been a W.  I’m okay with that.  And I’m okay with getting home at midnight on a school night, because it was a Great night!!

Sleepless in Chicago, 3.0.  The Cubs… I’m penning this before a crack of dawn flight, so that’s gonna be another blog.  Because my heart can’t take much more of this.  By the time this blog is published, I will have enjoyed 2 coffees in the American Airlines Admiral’s Club…I mean, what a game.  Great win!  Go Cubs Go!!  Bring on the Dodgers!  And a cardiologist for me, please. 💙💙💙

Happiest of Birthdays Carolyn!

Such a sad week…

6 Oct

And at the end of the day…

Spread love.

Why no Blog today?

29 Sep

Packers 35.  Bears 14.

I’ve been consoling this poor girl, so didn’t get a chance to Pen my blog!  Maxie is not pleased with the Bears performance, nor of John Fox and his “poor” (We’re being kind) coaching skills.

The good news is the Cubs are back in the Playoffs!

Maxine is happy.  As am I.  Thanks Dr. Stevie for the blogspiration. 😉

Go Cubs!

Goodbye Summer. Hello Fall!

22 Sep

Some fun bucket items to welcome and enjoy fall.  We will be christening our new Fire Pit this weekend.  S’mores and hot dogs.  Of course our weather in Chicago at 95 degrees, will rival the heat of the fire pit, but no matter.  Will still be a magical weekend.  College boy will be sliding home later today and we will begin ramping up for Mer Mer’s birthday.

Thank you for all the wonderful, funny, sassy and thoughtful birthday wishes.  I truly mean this, I feel grateful, blessed and so fortunate to continue this journey called Life.

If you follow me on Instagram, (@terryobrien.22 or my “business” one @dressedtoat )you saw this post, at least on my personal IG.    This is what I woke up to on my birthday compliments of my sweet daughter.  Flowers, Cakebread chard, Cupcakes, gold-wrapped gift and this beautiful card.  I truly am the most blessed mom.  Ever! ❤ ❤ ❤

Goodbye Summer.  Hello Fall.  Let’s make it the best one ever, shall we?

I only drink on two occasions

21 Sep

…When it’s my birthday and when it’s not.  Cheers to me, because:

Happy Birthday to me!

And what a day I have planned! From dawn till dusk and beyond, I have oodles of fun celebrations planned!  Blessed and grateful I can celebrate another year. 🙂  So happy the band will be together this weekend to celebrate not only my birthday, by my sweet daughter’s birthday.  Two fun dinners are two of my favorite restaurants, S’mores at the fire pit and a Bears game.  Best. Weekend. Ever.

I found a beeper that used to be my Moms.  I’m going to wear it today, so I can tell my very favorite joke… Hoping someone says, “why are You wearing a Beeper?!:

I can respond:  I’m expecting a call from 1988.

The Daily Affirmation

25 Aug

Earlier this year, Meredith starting giving Maxie a Daily Affirmation.

You’re beautiful

You’re smart

You’re a good girl

I love you

Take care of your Momma

She did this every morning before leaving for work.  Maxie will sit up straight on the couch and Mer will look into her eyes and give her the affirmation.

Maxie loves it.  Her day is not complete without her Affirmation. Of course, when Patrick came home for the summer, Meredith had to amend the affirmation to include:

Take care of your Momma and your brother.

There has only been one other amendment to the Daily Affirmation.

You’re brave

This falls under my own Mom’s favorite saying:

If you think you can or think you can’t…you’re right.  It’s a Henry  Ford quote, but my Mom used it all the time.

Maxie can be a bit of a nervous Nelly and can be afraid of her own shadow…until someone she doesn’t know, or like, comes to the house, then she turns into a crazy guard dog.  But I digress…So Meredith decided to tell Maxie that she’s Brave in her daily affirmation.  I think it’s helped. 😉

Well, this week, my Sonny Bunny heads back to college.  Where did summer go?  We were just having the time of our lives in San Diego!  This picture proves it.  But, it was time to caravan to Oxford, OH.  A caravan of 2, but nonetheless, a caravan.  I was giving some thought as to what to write in my letter to him.  The letter I write each year, that I stash in his room (Mer’s room when I did it for her) and include some “walking around money”.  What, pray-tel do I write to my son, whom I have affectionately been calling, my Sonny Bunny?  The child who brings me nothing but love and joy?

And it came to me.

You’re handsome

You’re smart

You’re a good boy

You’re brave

Take care of yourself

I love you

There you have it.  His daily affirmation!  Compliments of Mer Mer (my other source of love and joy), but tweaked for the occasion.  He can read it every day, if he needs his affirmation!

On a side note… a very Happy Birthday to Zack!  Happy 26th!

I love and miss you, my Sonny Bunny!

An oldie, but goodie….and this still applies.

The Riddle…

14 Aug
This was one of those times when I was walking in Seaport Harbor with my kids and heard this song and I stopped in my tracks.  Dead in my tracks.  I thought, “My God… I so get this song”.  And so this becomes a blog.  As this is usually what happens.  May I present:
The Riddle by Five for Fighting
There was a man back in ’95
Whose heart ran out of summers
But before he died, I asked him
Wait, what’s the sense in life?
Come over me, come over me
He said
Son, why you got to sing that tune?
Catch a Dylan song or some eclipse of the moon
Let an angel swing and make you swoon
Then you will see, you will see
Then he said
Here’s a riddle for you
Find the answer
There’s a reason for the world
You and I
Picked up my kid from school today
Did you learn anything causin’ the world today
You can’t live in a castle far away
Now talk to me, come talk to me
He said
Dad, I’m big, but we’re smaller than small
In the scheme of things, well, we’re nothing at all
Still every mother’s child sings a lonely song
So play with me, come play with me
And, hey, dad
Here’s a riddle for you
Find the answer
There’s a reason for the world
You and I
I said
Son, for all I’ve told you
When you get right down to the
Reason for the world
Who am I?
There are secrets that we still have left to find
There have been mysteries from the beginning of time
There are answers we’re not wise enough to see
He said
You looking for a clue
I love you free
The batter swings and the summer flies
As I look into my angel’s eyes
A song plays on while the moon is high over me
Something comes over me
I guess we’re big, and I guess we’re small
If you think about it, man, you know we got it all
‘Cause we’re all we got on this bouncing ball
And I love you free
I love you freely
Here’s a riddle for you
Find the answer
There’s a reason for the world
You and I

Yes, you may put this song on a continuous loop.  I have.
Cheers…from the luckiest mom in the world.
