Best of My Easter Posts

13 Apr

I have been blogging for seven years.  Shocking, but true.  I have probably posted about Easter and baskets, peeps, decor, funny peeps-related jokes for six years and probably touched upon Easter at least ten times.  In researching about new Easter ideas, I don’t think I can improve upon what I’ve blogged about the last six or seven years…so I present, The Best of My Easter Blogs! Something for everyone.  No worries, LAP, just skim and maybe you’ll find something you like!  Food, Decor, Clothes, Jokes, Peeps!  Best. Easter. Blog. Ever!  IMO.

Unique Easter Basket Ideas

As a parent I often get confused about what to put in an Easter basket that is fun, Eggcellent,  the kids will enjoy and at the same time unique, so I’m not always filling them with the same items year after year….or just Cash, as this is what both Mer Mer and Paddy crave, as they feel Cash is King!   Jelly beans, DVDs, Peeps,  iTunes cards and Chocolates are the usual, but there are also other ideas out there.  The kids usually get some of the same, year after year.   So, when looking for some Eggcellent new ideas,  I found some of these , and thought perhaps some of You can also try the following Easter basket ideas to make this year’s baskets more unique and memorable.

Unique Easter Basket Idea with Books
If your kids love to read or you would want them to make books their new best friends, you can try a cute Easter basket idea with books. Little children will enjoy books with Easter story themes and older kids may enjoy Harry Potter or Twilight-type books. Whatever  their reading preferences, you can gift them Easter baskets with books and help them discover the hidden reader in them…and buy yourself a wonderful new book as well.  Girl with the Dragoon Tatoo is on my reading list.  You can start a tradition by gifting a favorite gift, each year, in the baskets.  Wish I had started that 19 years ago.  And in working with my “If you give a Mouse a Cookie” theme…may I suggest,  “If you give a Moose a Muffin?”

Unique Easter Basket Idea with DVD and CD
This is a great idea to be given to teens as their Easter basket gift. You can fill their basket with the latest movie DVDs or music CDs. They will enjoy their Easter basket gift and will look forward to see their favorite movie. You can make personalized CDs for the recipient, with all their favorite music!  Along with gifting your favorite books , you can gift your favorite movies and music.

Easter Basket Ideas for Toddlers

You can get creative and make the Easter basket ideas for toddlers fun. These young minds are looking forward for fun and play and you should gift them just what they expect. You need to add some colorful Play Doh dough or fill it with toys like bath toys, sand toys or add in some character toys like Bob the Builder, Elmo, The Wiggles, etc…

Easter Basket Ideas for Kids

The Easter basket ideas for kids should include paints, colored pencils, stickers, coloring books, plants, bird feeder kits, gift certificates from the local burger or pizza parlors. You can  fill their baskets with temporary tattoos, fake fairy dust, or flower seed packets. You can even fill their baskets with food goodies like chocolate bunnies, Peeps, bunny shaped cookies, and candies of course. If your child is musically inclined, you can place a small musical instrument in the basket surrounded by plenty of candies. Girls will enjoy cute jewelry and lip balms and boys will love baseball and football cards. Stuff toys are always a hit and you can always place tickets to the theme park as a surprise.  Take it a step further and put baseball or basketball tickets in it.

Vintage Candy filled basket

Easter Basket Ideas for Teens

While many teens might declare they’re too old for Easter baskets( Easter is one of Mer Mer and Paddy’s favorite holidays!), most won’t say no to a basket full of their favorite goodies.   These can include movies and video games, music or books. Funky socks or a T-shirt may bring a smile , along with favorite treats, from candy and gum to energy drinks to anything Chocolate!

Other ideas for Easter baskets for teens include gift cards for gas, iTunes cards or shopping at a favorite store, movie tickets, and coupons for one night’s later curfew,  or skipping a least favorite chore one-time.  Patrick would enjoy not having to take out the garbage.

Easter Basket Ideas for Adults

Easter is a family celebration and not only the children, but adults too look forward for their Easter basket. Easter basket ideas for adults includes coffee packets and coffee mugs for those who cannot survive without their hot cup of  Joe. Or you can even try Easter basket ideas for adults, like filling the basket with cigars surrounded by other goodies. A person who loves golf can be given an Easter basket filled with golf tees, golf balls, glove and a mini book.  Or you can gift your “gal pal” an Easter basket filled with assorted creams, lotions, bath soaps and candles, perfume, nail polish,  and Spa gift cards.  Oh, and don’t forget the “Pink Ladies from Fannie May”!   Couples can fill each other’s baskets by adding heart-shaped candles, candies and perfumes and cologne.  Or you can show your love with an Easter basket filled with the choicest wine bottles, special wine glasses, and sassy napkins.  That would be the world’s perfect easter basket!  Oh, and don’t forget the Nordstrom gift card! 😉

Up with Peeps!!

Some people have, in my opinion, an unhealthy obsession with PeepsPeeps are marshmallow candies, sold in the United States and Canada, that are shaped into chicks, bunnies, and other animals (such as ducks). There are also different shapes used for various holidays. Peeps are used primarily to fill Easter baskets, though recent ad campaigns tout the candy as “Peeps – Always in Season”, as Peeps has since expanded to include Halloween, Christmas and Valentine’s Day. They are made from marshmallow, corn syrup, gelatin, and carnauba wax. (Wikipedia).

I have to admit, I have NEVER eaten a Peep.  Never.  The thought of that much sugar coming anywhere near my teeth, gives me the Heeby Jeeby’s.  However, with Easter upon us…Peeps are Everywhere.  And they’re not just for Easter baskets anymore.  Instead of a long-winded blog, I thought I’d let a few pics tell the story. 🙂

The Ultimate Peep Show

Exhausting…I know.  They do look harmless, don’t they? And to think people  spend countless hours making these…and notice how many, many of these ideas are Non-Edible.  What does that tell you?  Peeps…Pleasing to the eye, with their lovely yellow, blue and pink colors…but it’s Not necessarily a taste that the masses would like crossing their lips. But they sure are lovely to look at. 🙂  The Easter Bunny has provided Meredith and Patrick with Peeps every year for Easter, and I can tell you that NEVER have they been eaten.

Easter Ideas…a Pictorial, if you will.  Featuring everything from basket ideas, to centerpieces, to egg decorating, to Easter frocks and bonnets and other Eggcellent things I’d love to share.

FROCKS – not sure everyone still dresses in Easter dresses and suits, but, just in case…Pretty sure Mer Mer and I will dress up accordingly, though not sure about Kevin and Paddy.  Men!  Boys!  So, here are so lovely Easter attire options:

BONNETS – An Easter Bonnet represents the tail-end of a tradition of wearing new clothes at Easter, in harmony with the renewal of the year and the promise of spiritual renewal and redemption. (Wikipedia).  Women, will wear a hat/bonnet at the Kentucky Derby, or a derby party, but you’ll be hard-pressed to see anyone wearing one at church this Easter. Or, I should say, you’ll have a difficult time finding an Easter bonnet.  Derby hat, yes.  Easter bonnet, no.

Funnies not necessarily about bunnies

Happy Easter!

PS – Speaking of Jelly Beans, my favorite, are Hands Down, Brach’s Jelly Beans…and NOT the spicy kind either.  These are far better than Jelly Belly, Mike and Ike, or Starbursts.

Easter Puns

Here are some messages that work for all sorts of peeps, whether they’re chicks, bunnies, or one of the many other shapes that are available these days.

General

To one of my favorite peeps.
It’s Easter, for Peep’s sake!
You and I are like two peeps in a pod.
I heard you wanted to see a peep show.
Hope you enjoy this peeps offering.
Power to the Peep-le!
To a real peep-le person.
I do want to hear another peep out of you – keep in touch!
Our friendship is growing by peeps and bounds!
Hope you enjoy this tongue-in-peep gift.
I never get tired of hanging with my peeps.
I heard you like hanging out with your peeps.
Without you, I’d go off the peep end!
All I am saying, is give peeps a chance.
To a person with real peep-le skills.
Wishing you peeps and happiness this Easter!

Chicks

When most people think of peeps, they probably envision the little marshmallow chicks that made them famous. Here are some funny/punny sayings that go with this type of peep.

Why didn’t the peep cross the road? Because it was a little chicken.
Why did the chicken cross the road? To get by your side.
Hope you enjoy this cheep gift.
For one of my favorite chicks.
To a real cool chick.
To the hottest chick in town.
You’re a big clucking deal.
I heard you get all the chicks.
I heard you were looking for some real sweet chicks.
You might not be a spring chicken, but you’re pretty sweet.
You and I are birds of a feather.
Don’t you hate candy gifts with fowl puns attached to them?

Bunnies

Another classic peep shape is the bunny. Here are some hare-brained puns to accompany a gift of bunny peeps.

For some-bunny very special.
To my little honey bunny.
I heard you wanted to dye your hare.
This peep was sent by hare-mail.
I heard you like hip hop.
You make me want to hop up and down.
Take one of these when you’re having a bad hare day.
For my sweet funny bunny.
Hope you have a hoppin’ good Easter.
I heard eating these can cure your receding hare line.

Song of the Day – Build Me Up Buttercup, by the Foundations.  For all my Wisconsin college students and students to be!  Go Badgers!  I believe this is the 3rd of 4th time this song has been the featured song of the day. Should tell you something!
Why do you build me up (build me up) Buttercup, baby
Just to let me down (let me down) and mess me around
And then worst of all (worst of all) you never call, baby
When you say you will (say you will) but I love you still
I need you (I need you) more than anyone, darlin’
You know that I have from the start
So build me up (build me up) Buttercup, don’t break my heart

So, This happened this week.  I was driving with Mer in the front with me and my sister, Megan in the back, on our way to lunch.  A guy in a car (not nearly as sassy as my new, white “sports car”) passed me and cut me off.  Whatever.  We then turned the same way, and when we got the the light, he was in the lane next to us, and flipped us off.  It was a Hard, F-off.  Directed at my daughter.  #Unbecoming.  He then, BACKED up and rolled down his window and yelled, “So when is passing a car against the law”.  I gave him a look that said, without speaking, “what in god’s green earth is wrong with you”.  Meredith’s look was an explanation point to my look.  He then yells, “You’re lucky we are in the suburbs, if we were in the city, you’d be shot”.  Seriously.  I have no idea what his problem was, but lunch was Fabulous.

Fifty Shades of Spring Break and Up with Peeps!

2 Apr

7d3a48eca6391388ac4b7bb6365abd4f

Still recovering from, May I say, Have Passport… Will Travel!  In other words, Fifty Shades of Spring Break!

passport

Pardon the sun, but I was leaving and it was as sunny in Chicago as it was when we arrived in Mexico.  I learned quite a bit from my first International trip.  But that’s another blog.  A girl and her passport.  One of my favorite lines from spring break (and there were lots of them) came from Dave, when we were discussing how you really learn quite a bit about people when traveling with them (and much of it good, btw), and he said,

“I actually like you More after travelling with you”.  Smart man. It may have been the pool drinks talking, or the fact that I was lounge chair buddies with his wife, but I’ll take it.  Not only am I good at parties, but I’m fun to travel with.  Cheers! 🙂

2nd best line, not from my spring break, but it totally fits, thanks to Fun Bob:

“All inclusive resort is like a Cruise on land”.  True that.

50 shades of spring break

Yes, I do believe it does.  Or at least the pool lounge chair does. 😉

So, because of my sensitive stomach and apparent intolerance to international massages and Mexican sun, #SevereDehydration, I am still recovering from my vacation.  As I Desperately need a vacation from my vacation, so am  reposting one of my favorite blogs about Peeps.  Yes, those nasty sugary-y “treats” that some people like (Cathy!) and some of us, dislike…But, it’s not Easter unless there are Peeps in the baskets.  Pink for Meredith and Blue for Patrick.

Hip, Hip, Hooray!  The long-awaited for and anticipated blog…Up with Peeps!!

Some people have, in my opinion, an unhealthy obsession with PeepsPeeps are marshmallow candies, sold in the United States and Canada, that are shaped into chicks, bunnies, and other animals (such as ducks). There are also different shapes used for various holidays. But they sure are lovely to look at. 🙂  The Easter Bunny has provided Meredith and Patrick with Peeps every year for Easter, and I can tell you that NEVER have they been eaten.  But, I can also predict Peeps are here to stay, and Meredith and Patrick will also be the lucky recipients of More Peeps in their Easter Baskets!

And, in case you cannot make it to Geja’s in Chicago (one of my all-time favorite restaurants in Chicago, which is a Fondue restaurant where Kevin and I celebrated many anniversaries), you can do this at home:

Peeps Trivia…How long is the standard shelf life for Peeps?  2 years!  And each Peep is only 32 calories!  Wow.

Honestly…these are killing me.  Peeps…the other white meat! 🙂

And a Happy Easter Birthday to my very best friend, Lora!!  Which reminds me of a very snappy retort of hers.  A few years back I asked her, “I wonder what I should get the kids for Easter”…and as only she can get away with, she responded… “How about a little disappointment”?   I love her…and I do believe she was just kidding.  And I believe the message has been received!

Song of the Day:  Uptown Funk, by Bruno Mars.  For the sole reason I Cannot get that song out of my head!

62781ecc1475cbe5aed628d15b4dcc8dTomorrow there will be a short blog about Easter Basket ideas, just in case you are still searching for ideas.  It’s a Good Friday to post a blog about Easter Baskets!

My new Netflix obsession:  Bloodline.  Been through 7 episodes and love, love, love it.  Also, if you haven’t seen Cinderella, go see it this weekend.  I took my Cinderella to see it.  Cinderella and Joel Gott Chardonnay.  Best. Movie Experience. Ever!

An oldie…but goody!

Easter week… This is one of the latest Easters I can recall, yet it still snowed in Chicago this week.  I mean, for Pete’s sakes…and who is Pete, btw?  Onward, and upward…and let’s focus on Easter, and a fun-filled weekend.  We have a house-full this weekend, and yet, another short work week for me … #livingthedream.  And let us not forget the reason for Easter…

I own this dress… love, love, love it!  When it’s chilly, I pair it with a denim jacket, and usually pair it with silver chunky sandals.

Just another cute idea on how to decorate your cake for Easter…Of course, this would be a total Grand slam, if they used Coconut, and not the white sprinkles…but the white sprinkles would still rock.

For your Vegetable tray…slice carrots, and use broccoli at the top for the stem…I’m bringing this to brunch.  Best brunch guest ever.

I love this centerpiece (one above), made with decorated eggs, and flowers…I’m thinking this can be done with hollowed out eggs, and silk flowers, and you have it for many years to come.

I’m absolutely Obsessed with these “floral” decorations.  They appear quite easy to do…it’s almost like I could do one myself!  Almost. 🙂

Fill the plastic Easter eggs with Privileges and coupons, instead of candy… or perhaps half with coupons the other half with candy. 🙂

Song of the Week…In honor of lent and Good Friday…Say a Little Prayer for You, the Aretha Franklin version…though I absolutely LOVE the one from My Best Friend’s Wedding…Thanks Steph for the suggestion!
