For our 5-year anniversary, Kevin gave me an Anniversary Band. Love it. Wear it everyday.
For our 6-year anniversary, Kevin gave me a Tiffany sapphire and diamond ring. It’s the “Tiffany garden flower ring”. Lovely, delicate, and I used to wear it all the time. I still love it, just don’t wear it as often. But I love the sapphire, since it’s my birthstone.
For our 16-year anniversary, Kevin came home, and asked if a package was delivered. Indeed one had been. It was from Cellini Jewelers from NY. He seemed to be more excited than I, which I found peculiar. He said he hadn’t actually “seen” the gift. He said, and I quote, “I was at the car wash, and looking at a Town & Country magazine, and saw this picture and thought of you”. Yes, and I’m aware you’re asking how we made it to 23-years :)… I opened it…and, well, I must say, it was “something else”. It was a ring, shaped like a flower. And pretty large. The top of the ring (the flower) was size of a quarter. It is a flower made of sapphires and diamonds, with emeralds going down the sides, like the flower stem. Now, I didn’t want to hurt his feelings, but thought it didn’t quite suit me. I wouldn’t dream of returning it, but thought perhaps we could tweak it a bit, so, I said, “what if we have the emeralds removed from the side”? And Kevin said the best line, EVER…”Well, then, it won’t look like a flower”. I replied, “Oh, it will still look like a flower”. 😉
My neighbors weren’t so sold on the ring either, and one even said, “Is this Kevin’s first jewelry miss?” I’m not sure why, as I wasn’t a fan of this ring, but I started to defend him and the ring. It looked like costume jewelry, but it was not…they were real diamonds, sapphires and emeralds. That’s when I realized I actually liked the ring. Who knew? I have to say, in the past 5 years, the ring has grown on me…but has not grown itself, as it was pretty large to begin with. I really do love it, and love wearing it. It’s a conversation piece, and I’ve never seen anyone else wearing one like it. Plus, it sort of gets one noticed…not that I’m ever looking to get noticed. I mean, my goodness! But it does seem to enter a room before you do.
And, as the evolution of styles change, and big costume rings have become more common place, I’ve also added these little nuggets (or rings similar to these) into my repertoire of rings. While these rings are costume, the Flower ring is not, I still love them and wear them often. Plus, my mom always wore costume jewelry, so these remind me of my mom. 🙂
The evolution of rings, the bigger the better. Sizes does matter…who knew?!
The Best Father’s Day Gift Idea…The Fitbit
I have become obsessed with my Fitbit fitness tracker. www.fitbit.com. I got mine last September…or shall I say, got bamboozled into getting one. Actually a friend said, “I got a fitbit, you should get one too”. Yes, bamboozled. 🙂 Anywho, I have started actually wearing mine, every day, for the past few months or so…(getting colored bands, has helped, so I can color-coordinate with my outfits), and hence… I have been averaging between 12,000 – 19,000 steps per day. I impress myself, and I am not an impressive person. So, I think everyone should have a Fitbit, or a similar exercise tracker. Best. Father’s. Day. Gift. Ever. My friends Kristy and Mitch have the Garmin version, which also has a watch on top, as well as all the data on the wristband, but since I’m so easily distracted, and would spend all day long checking my wrist-tracker, plus I already have the Fitbit, hence, I’ve become a Fitbit loyalist! Though, Kristy highly suggests the Garmin. #options.
So…the Fitbit: An activity tracker, you wear on our wrist, which uses a three-dimensional accelerometer to sense user movement. The Tracker measures steps taken, and combines it with user data to calculate distance walked, calories burned, floors climbed, and activity duration and intensity. It also tracks your sleep, which has become a huge eye opener! All data is accessible on an app on your iPhone, iPad or computer. So, Kevin will become the newest Fitbit enthusiast, and I shall add him to my Fitbit friends, and keep track of his steps and activity. #controlling. #iamsonot. #sonotcontrolling
Disclaimer…this hairy arm, is Not mine.
Happy Father’s Day to all those father’s out there…and I miss my father, everyday, but especially on Father’s Day. Here is the first, and possibly the last O’Brien selfie…and only because if there is someone who dislikes selfies more than I, it would be my husband.
xoxo,
T.
I don’t understand how a woman can leave the house without fixing herself up a little…if only out of politeness. And then, you never know, maybe that’s the day she has a date with destiny. And it’s best to be as pretty as possible for destiny…Coco Chanel
Just pretend the flower ring is costume and you are right in style!
How fun is this ring roundup! Such pretty bling. Like hearing how the flower ring grew on you and you went from doubting to defending. Atta girl! Bought a fit bit clip on and lost it in a bar first night I had it, I kept checking it, until it disappeared!
Can you tell me where your husband got (or the brand of) the ring with the huge pink crystal surrounded by rhinestones? That is exactly the ring I want and I can’t find it anywhere!
